Sandy Anghie - Parking Levy & Plan for Perth

Week 11 Campaign update.

Perth Parking Levy

The Perth Parking Levy has been the subject of a lot of concern over recent years.

Moves by the State Government to enhance transparency about how it is spent are welcomed. Similarly, changes to the Act to allow more flexibility with regards to the Levy, including differential rates and the ability to waive fees, provide opportunity.

You can read the State Government’s media release via the link here, and the Property Council’s response via the link here.

There are more conversations to be had with the State Government about which projects are most deserving of the funding generated by the Perth Parking Levy.

If elected as Perth Lord Mayor, I am committed to an ongoing constructive dialogue with the State Government about the Levy. It is essential that the City of Perth community who contribute to the fund get their say in how proceeds are used.

We need collaborative leadership at the City of Perth, and a full time, full term Lord Mayor who can negotiate good outcomes for the City with the State Government.

Plan for Perth

Time and time again I hear about the need for a Plan for Perth. We don’t have one. But it’s essential to outline where, how and when future infrastructure and projects would be located and connected to evolve the city area into a cohesive whole.

A plan maps out where we are heading and provides confidence to the market and strategic vision to drive business investment. It may take a variety of forms but one thing is certain: the plan must be a collaborative document, made hand in hand with the State Government.

After all, the City’s budget of approximately $300 million is a fraction of the State’s budget. We rely on the State Government to deliver major infrastructure projects.

  • Elizabeth Quay

  • WA Museum Boola Bardip

  • Aboriginal Cultural Centre

  • New School in East Perth

  • ECU City Campus

These are all projects delivered by, or with, the State Government.

The City needs a Lord Mayor who will at all times act in the best interests of the City and work collaboratively with the State - no matter who is in power. The role of Lord Mayor requires full commitment to the City.

Capital City Planning Committee

If elected Lord Mayor, I would seek to immediately re-engage with the Capital City Planning Committee, which has rarely met in recent years.

Current members according to the WAPC website are:

  • Chair, Western Australian Planning Commission

  • Director General, Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage

  • Chief Executive Officer, DevelopmentWA

  • Chairperson, Swan River Trust

  • Lord Mayor, City of Perth

  • Nominee of the Director General. Department of Communities

  • Director General, Department of Transport

  • Chairperson, Heritage Council

  • Government Architect

  • Professions representative

  • Community representative

This is an important forum. Strong collaboration and coordination between the state government, local government and the private sector is needed to foster a vibrant and progressive City.

It’s clear that Perth is well placed, but we need to be proactive to harness the moment.

Perth needs a Lord Mayor who is fully focused on the City, its businesses and its residents – not someone whose ambitions lie elsewhere.

With 25 years experience across law, commerce, governance, architecture and the built environment, I am the right person for the job of Perth Lord Mayor – full time, and for a full term.

Only 8 days left to enrol to vote!

While the election is a few months away, now is the time to enrol to vote.

To have your say, you must be enrolled to vote by Friday 25th August 2023.

While you may have enrolled previously, a number of people have found that they have slipped off the roll, as it is regularly revised by the City of Perth. So it’s important to check that you are still on there and if not, restore your right to vote. You can check by sending an email to election@cityofperth.wa.gov.au

If you like my plans for Perth, and want to vote, you need to enrol now.

I encourage you to make sure you can have your say in who represents our capital city by enrolling to vote before the 25th of August.

A vote for Sandy Anghie as Lord Mayor is a vote for a full time, full term Lord Mayor. If you have a vision for your city, you need to stay the course so you can implement it.

It’s what voters expect, and with me – it’s what they will get.

In addition to commitments I have announced to date, I will be announcing a range of further commitments over the coming months. And I will be listening to you - our City’s residents, businesses and community groups. I look forward to hearing your ideas and feedback.
