A final thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their busy days to read my campaign newsletter for the past 5 months, and my Council updates for the past 3 years before that.

It’s been an honour to serve the people of Perth for the past 3 years as an Elected Member. One of the great things about the role has been the many great people I have met along the way, and the new friends I have made across the broad range of communities that make up our City.

This is my final City newsletter. It’s back to the drawing board for me - literally! I have a house renovation project to finish for some clients who have been very patient with me in recent months! And of course, preparations for Perth Design Week 2024 …

Thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign over the last 20 weeks!

I feel humbled to have so many people across Perth’s community – of residents and businesses – providing support and encouragement for my campaign.

A number of people I have only met in the past few months and kindly reached out through email and social media to offer assistance.

Other people I met during my first campaign in 2020 and have cheered me on since then.

This afternoon the Property Council of Australia hosted their “Who will be the next Lord Mayor sundowner?”

Each of the three candidates for Lord Mayor was provided with an opportunity to speak for a short period, followed by questions directly from people in attendance.

Elections cost our ratepayers time and money. Our City is at a crossroads - we can’t gamble the future of our City on someone distracted by State politics.

There’s only one candidate this election that’s made a commitment to be a full time, full term Lord Mayor. I’m the only candidate that can be relied upon for stable leadership over the next 4 years.

I’ve run my campaign in the manner I intend to lead the City. I’ve worked hard and I’ve been transparent about my plans:

I’m the right person for the job of Perth Lord Mayor.

As Lord Mayor, I will give the role the focus deserved. I won’t be distracted by other ambitions. I’m independent and not using the role as a stepping stone to State or Federal Parliament. I am committed to Local Government and Perth's community. I am committed to our City and focused on delivering for it every day.

My success as a Councillor, putting policies to Council and getting them passed, is proof of that commitment.

I want to be your Lord Mayor full time, full term. Our City deserves a Lord Mayor 100% committed to Local Government and Perth’s community.

The City of Perth has just started its sustainability journey, with its first Sustainability Strategy adopted just last year. And we have a long way to go.

It’s good to now have a long list of possible initiatives from Cundall that the City can consider implementing over time. The commitment for this financial year was $300,000.

As I stated at the August Council Meeting, personally, I would have liked to have seen the City consider further initiatives and incentives.

If elected Lord Mayor, sustainability will be a genuine priority.

The Perth Parking Levy has been the subject of a lot of concern over recent years.

If elected as Perth Lord Mayor, I am committed to an ongoing constructive dialogue with the State Government about the Levy. It is essential that the City of Perth community who contribute to the fund get their say in how proceeds are used.

Safety is fundamental to the liveability of a city. The actual and perceived safety of residents, businesses and visitors should always be a priority.

As your Lord Mayor, safety will be a priority - across all City neighborhoods.

A recent examination of the WA Police crime data revealed which suburbs are Perth’s safest and which had the highest crime rates. According to this review, the Perth policing district had the highest crime rate in WA in 2022 / 23. We can do better.

If elected at the October 2023 election, I will work with council and the City to introduce my “Arts Mean Business” Plan.

With retail vacancies across the City at 20 to 25%, and around 35% in the Hay Street Mall, we need to think creatively to activate our centre and redefine our City in a post COVID world. Arts mean business.

I’m proud to see that a number of my initiatives have been included in the City of Perth Budget for this financial year and beyond.

As a City Councillor, I have a strong record of delivery, progressing things that matter across our City’s communities.

I have successfully put forward initiatives aimed at making our city streets, laneways and neighbourhoods more people focused and business friendly - improving the street level experience for city workers, residents, visitors, artists and the retail and hospitality sectors.

I guarantee that if elected as Perth Lord Mayor, I will serve a full term. If you have a vision for your city, you need to stay the course so you can implement it. It’s what voters expect, and with me – it’s what they will get.

Time and time again, I have heard property and business owners talk about the need to upgrade City laneways.

Left unlit, and underutilised, they provide a space for crime and antisocial behaviour. One example is the laneway in Pier Street in the City’s east end. Another is Grand Lane off the Murray Street Mall and Barrack Street.

Through upgrades to laneways we can help create a safer, more walkable City for everyone.

Today I am announcing my commitment to youth and the education sector if elected City of Perth Lord Mayor at the 21 October 2023 election.

I am committed to investing in our city’s young residents and growing our student population by initiating the City of Perth’s first ever Youth Action Plan.

Recognising that young people are the future of Perth, supporting their innovative ideas and initiatives through active involvement is key to the successful, sustainable and inclusive transformation of Perth to a modern and progressive 24-hour city.

Three weeks since I launched my campaign for the role of Perth Lord Mayor to be decided at the 21 October 2023 City of Perth Council election - and it’s been busy!

I have been out in the community talking to local residents and businesses and getting their direct feedback on what the City can do better. Because great cities of the world are always striving to be better.

I am excited to announce that I will be running for the role of Perth Lord Mayor at the October 21 City of Perth Council election this year.

Every day I am focused on delivering for the City of Perth, through my role on Council and other initiatives I am involved in. Making Perth a world class liveable city is what gets me up every morning.
