Commitment

Last week I had the opportunity to talk about election commitments with Gary Adshead on 6PR Perth.

You have a choice this election: someone who can give a straight answer to the question will you serve a full term. Or someone who can’t. You decide. Link to listen here: Perth Election: Zemplas, Anghie make cases for upcoming vote (6pr.com.au)

Elections cost our ratepayers time and money. Our City is at a crossroads - we can’t gamble the future of our City on someone distracted by State politics.

Trust and Transparency

There’s only one candidate this election that’s made a commitment to be a full time, full term Lord Mayor. I’m the only candidate that can be relied upon for stable leadership over the next 4 years.

I’ve run my campaign in the manner I intend to lead the City. I’ve worked hard and I’ve been transparent about my plans:
✅ 100% committed to the City: Full time; Full term
✅ Independent: I’m not a member of any political party, and I never will be
✅ Committed to Local Government: No ambitions for State or Federal politics

With a strong skill set across law, commerce, design and governance, accumulated over my 25 year career, I’m the right person for the job of Perth Lord Mayor.

Let’s not take a gamble on the future of our City with someone who’s ambitions lie elsewhere.

We can’t risk chaos, political division and distraction. We need a Council that is focused on delivering for residents and businesses, and a Council that can work constructively with the State Government to get things done - no matter who is in power.

My Platform

I have spent the last three years listening to people across our City. I have crafted their thoughts into my platform which I have shared with you over the past four months:

  1. Standing up for all City neighbourhoods

  2. Make Perth a 24 Hour City, building on the incoming ECU City Campus

  3. Enhanced safety measures

  4. Improve transparency and accountability

  5. Keep rates low and make residential parking permits free

  6. Work with all levels of Government to tackle homelessness

  7. Future proof our City with my Youth and Tech Action Plans

  8. Implement my Arts Mean Business Plan

  9. Continue my focus on sustainability and urban greening

  10. Refresh key streets and laneways in every City neighbourhood

Further details can be found on the Campaign Updates page of my website: link here.

It’s a sensible plan that the City can deliver. I’m not going to make undeliverable promises for the sake of grabbing headlines.

My Record

And over the past 3 years I have proven my ability to deliver.

Since being elected in 2020, I have always stood up for our City neighbourhoods. I haven’t shied away from new ideas and standing up for the community; nor will I as Lord Mayor. Putting up good policies with well reasoned arguments.

I have put forward 22 policies to the Council via Notices of Motion. 16 of these were supported unanimously or by a majority of council, and 6 were unsuccessful.

My successful policies include:

Sustainable City initiatives

Mainstreet Refresh, laneway lighting and revitalisation

Free parking in West Perth

Tech Action Plan

And many more

My Notices of Motion have centered on making sure our City is safe, vibrant and inclusive. Further details can be found on the My Record page of my website: link here.

Forward Together

Perth can be one of the most liveable cities in the world. The impending ECU City Campus can diversify our City economy, and bring an influx of students and new residents. But we need a Plan for Perth.

If we harness the unique power of our individual neighbourhoods, if we highlight what makes each of them special to us, we will have a City that others will fall in love with, just like we have.

If you have a vision for your City, you need to stay the course and implement it. It’s what voters expect. And with me – it is what you will get.
